Conflict of Interest Policy
The Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review (BJCMR) requires all authors, reviewers, editors, and members of the editorial board to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence, or be perceived to influence, the content, evaluation, or interpretation of a manuscript.
This policy is aligned with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as well as the transparency requirements of DOAJ, Scopus, and PubMed Central.
Definition of Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest may include, but is not limited to:
-
Financial relationships, such as employment, consultancies, advisory roles, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, grants, or patents
-
Personal, academic, or professional relationships that could affect objectivity or impartial judgment
-
Institutional affiliations or competing interests that may be perceived as influencing the research or editorial decision
-
Any other situation that could reasonably be perceived as a potential source of bias
Disclosure Requirements
All conflicts of interest must be fully disclosed:
-
By authors, at the time of manuscript submission
-
By reviewers, prior to accepting an invitation to review
-
By editors, when handling manuscripts where a potential conflict exists
If no conflicts of interest exist, authors must explicitly state: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”
Management of Conflicts of Interest
BJCMR ensures that all disclosed conflicts are handled transparently and in accordance with ethical standards. When a conflict of interest is identified:
-
Editors or reviewers with conflicts must recuse themselves from the evaluation process
-
Appropriate disclosures will be published with the article when relevant
-
Editorial decisions will remain independent and based solely on scientific merit
Failure to disclose relevant conflicts of interest may result in editorial actions, including rejection, correction, or retraction of the manuscript, in line with COPE guidelines.
