Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)

The Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review (BJCMR) recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools — including large language models, text generators, and image-generation systems — may be used to support research activities and manuscript preparation. However, any use of such tools must be transparent, ethical, limited in scope, and fully compliant with international scholarly publishing standards.

BJCMR’s policy is aligned with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and leading academic publishers, as well as with the requirements of DOAJ, Scopus, and PubMed Central.

Permitted Use of GenAI

Authors may use GenAI tools exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Language editing and grammar correction

  • Improving clarity, readability, and stylistic consistency of the manuscript

GenAI tools must not be listed as authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, or accuracy of scholarly work.

Prohibited Use of GenAI

The use of GenAI tools is not permitted for:

  • Generating original research data, results, or analyses

  • Fabricating, falsifying, or manipulating data, images, figures, or references

  • Creating or altering scientific interpretations or conclusions

  • Replacing critical intellectual contributions, scientific reasoning, or decision-making by the authors

Disclosure Requirement

Authors are required to explicitly disclose any use of GenAI tools in the manuscript, including:

  • The name of the tool used

  • The purpose of its use (e.g., language editing or grammar assistance)

  • A statement confirming that the authors take full responsibility for the content of the manuscript

Failure to disclose the use of GenAI tools, or misuse of such tools, may result in manuscript rejection, correction, or retraction, in accordance with BJCMR’s ethical and editorial policies and COPE guidelines.

Responsibility and Ethical Accountability

Regardless of the use of GenAI tools, all authors remain fully and solely responsible for:

  • The originality of the manuscript

  • The accuracy of data, analyses, and interpretations

  • Compliance with ethical, legal, and copyright standards

BJCMR reserves the right to request clarifications or additional information regarding the use of GenAI at any stage of the editorial process.
