Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review

Plagiarism Policy

The Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review (BJCMR) adopts a strict zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism in all its forms, in accordance with internationally recognized standards of research integrity and publication ethics. This policy is aligned with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and with the requirements of DOAJ, Scopus, and PubMed Central.

All manuscripts submitted to BJCMR undergo plagiarism and similarity screening using specialized detection software (e.g., Turnitin®) prior to the peer review process.

The purpose of this screening is to ensure that submitted manuscripts are original, that all sources are properly cited, and that ethical standards of scholarly publishing are fully respected.

Policy Scope

BJCMR’s plagiarism policy includes the following procedures:

  • Initial Screening
All submissions are screened for similarity before being sent for peer review.

  • Acceptable Similarity Threshold
A similarity index of up to 15% is generally considered acceptable, provided that no single source exceeds 2%, excluding references, properly quoted text, and standard methodological descriptions.

  • Editorial Action on High Similarity
Manuscripts showing excessive, inappropriate, or unjustified similarity may be returned to the authors for clarification or revision, or may be rejected outright, at the discretion of the editors.

  • Post-Publication Review
If plagiarism or unethical textual overlap is identified after publication, BJCMR will take appropriate editorial action, which may include correction, expression of concern, or retraction, in accordance with COPE guidelines.

By submitting a manuscript to BJCMR, authors acknowledge and agree to comply with this plagiarism policy and accept the journal’s editorial decisions regarding similarity and research integrity.
