Dear Participants of the IV Huambo Cardiology Conference – 2026,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome all participants to the Cardiology Conference, which will take place on September 11 and 12 in this historic and welcoming city of Huambo. The theme of this edition, “Cardiology in Angola: From Global Evidence to Local Reality,” reflects one of the major challenges of our practice: keeping pace with advances in global cardiology while remaining attentive to the epidemiological, social, and economic characteristics of our country.
Contemporary cardiology is evolving rapidly, with new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as increasingly sophisticated technologies. However, translating scientific evidence into better healthcare requires the ability to adapt knowledge to our realities, our needs, and the resources available to us. It is within this context that this Conference assumes particular importance. The scientific program includes 10 round-table sessions and 6 lectures, providing opportunities for updating knowledge, discussion, and the exchange of experiences among professionals from different fields. These activities are complemented by several pre-conference courses, representing a clear commitment to continuing education and the development of professional competencies.
Scientific research also holds a prominent place in this edition. Thirteen scientific abstracts were submitted, of which 10 were selected following peer review. Once again, the selected works will be published, continuing our commitment to recognizing and disseminating national scientific production. This is particularly important. Angola needs not only to apply evidence generated internationally, but also to produce evidence based on its own reality. We need to study our patients, better understand the burden of cardiovascular diseases, identify barriers to access to healthcare, and evaluate the outcomes of our interventions.
The Conference is therefore much more than a scientific update meeting. It is a space for sharing knowledge, fostering research, strengthening continuing education, and developing responses that are better suited to the cardiovascular challenges facing our country. May these two days in Huambo allow us to return to our institutions with new knowledge, new ideas, new partnerships, and, above all, a renewed commitment to the quality of cardiovascular care in Angola.
